We know you’ve been waiting for it! An unmissable event at Atwater Market, the Oktoberfest is THE place to go for beer lovers. More than 45 micro-breweries are gathered together in a single location for three days to offer you the “crème-de-la-crème” of Québec artisanal beer.
And just what is the origin of Oktoberfest, you may ask? It originated in Germany, with the celebration of the marriage of the crown prince Ludwig I of Bavaria with princess Therese de Saxe-Hildburghausen, in October 1810. The highlight of that first October festival was horse racing, much more than beer drinking. But as the years went by, the tables turned, so that today Oktoberfest has become known as a not-to-be-missed beer festival in Europe, as well as here in Québec!
Back at the Market… you can buy your beer coupons for the symbolic price of 3 for $1* at the Fromagerie Atwater. And if you’re feeling a bit peckish, our butchers and charcutiers have channeled their inner German and will be serving up sauerkraut and sausages. Several other shops in the market will also be offering special Oktoberfest treats. Prost!
*Fifty cents of each dollar will be donated to the Montréal Children’s Hospital Foundation. Last year, $3000 was raised in that way. While drinking in moderation (see Educalool.com for more information)— can we do even better this year?
