Silk Road apple crumble, Desserts et collations
  • 6–8 servings
  • Preparation: 20 minutes
  • Baking time: 20–25 minutes
  • Recipe created by Mélissa Clément from Atelier Cuisiner en famille.

    Suggestions:
    - Make extra crumbles and put them in the freezer to have this delicious apple season dessert on hand at other times of the year.
    - When the kids go back to school, make portions for their lunches, by baking the crumble in muffin tins lined with parchment paper for 15 minutes, instead of for 20 to 25 minutes.
    - As a variation, sprinkle blueberries, cranberries and/or dark chocolate chips over the apples before topping with the crumble.

    Ingredients

    Cortland apples: 8 large

    • Lemon juice: 30 mL (2 tsp.)

    Crumble ingredients:

    • Oatmeal (rolled oats): 500 mL (2 cups)
    • Unsalted butter: 125 mL (1/2 cup)
    • Flour: 125 mL (1/2 cup)
    • Brown sugar: 60 mL (1/4 cup)
    • Salt: 1 mL (1/4 tsp.)
    • Silk Road spice blend*: 2.5 mL to 5 mL (¼ to ½ tsp.) (From Spice Trekkers)

    *or replace with:

    • Cinnamon: 2.5 mL (1/2 tsp.)
    • Nutmeg: 1 mL (1/4 tsp.)

    Preparation

    1. Preheat the oven to 375° F.
    2. Grind the Silk Road spice blend with a mortar. Set aside.
    3. Quarter the apples and sprinkle with lemon juice. Set aside.
    4. In a medium-sized bowl, mix the topping ingredients (oatmeal, butter, flour, brown sugar, salt, spices) with your fingers.
    5. Place the apples in the bottom of a baking pan and top with the crumble mix without pressing it into the apples.
    6. Bake in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream.
