A perfect Mason jar to offer, for a most comforting gift!
2 cups of split peas
2 tbsp. teaspoon of dried fennel
1 tsp. of curry powder
1 tsp. of cumin powder
1 tsp. of dried tarragon (optional)
1/2 tsp. of black pepper
1 tsp. of salt
1 bay leaf
1 sprig of rosemary
Layer all the ingredients starting with the split peas, then all the spices and cover with the bay leaf and the sprig of rosemary. You can print a label or write on a card the preparation of the recipe and include it with the jar when you give it away.
Put all the ingredients in a large saucepan and add 6 cups of water.
Cook over medium-high heat until the split peas become very tender (20-25 min).
Blend with a hand blender until smooth and silky. If the soup is too runny, you can cook it again for a few minutes until reduced.
You can serve it with a drizzle of olive oil and a few walnuts on top.
