Harvest Festival at Jean-Talon Market

La Fête des récoltes au Marché Jean-Talon

An abundance of fruits and vegetables has arrived at Jean-Talon Market! Join us for the Harvest Festival on September 6 and 7 to celebrate local farmers and the bounty of the harvest. A full weekend of free entertainment, cooking workshops, and fun activities awaits you.

On the program: free cooking demonstrations, paid hands-on workshops (registration required), corn galore, face painting for children, a local refreshment bar, and festive music.

  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

New this year, the Jean-Talon Market also invites you to attend two major competitions! On Saturday, you can watch the best pie competition and vote for your favorite recipe (1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.). On Sunday, tomatoes will take center stage with the second edition of “À qui la meilleure sauce tomate de la Petite Italie” (Who has the best sauce?), which will feature cooking demonstrations and determine which business in Little Italy makes the best tomato sauce (1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.).

So, are you ready to celebrate the producers and their harvests? We'll see you at the market!

 Pie baking contest

What better way to showcase the fruits and vegetables from our markets than with a delicious homemade pie? With this in mind, the Marchés publics de Montréal invites you to participate in its first best pie competition, which will take place on Saturday, September 6, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Get out your aprons and rolling pins! Registration for the competition will open very soon.

Would you rather eat pies than bake them? Perfect! We've got you covered, because it's you, the public, who will determine who baked the best pie.

How does the competition work?

For participants:

  • Registration is open until August 20.
  • Ten participants will be selected.
  • Bring two servings of your pie for visitors to taste. They will be the judges.

Prizes:

The grand prize winner of the best pie will receive:

  • The trophy for the best pie
  • A $150 gift card from the Marchés publics de Montréal
  • A bag from the Marchés publics de Montréal

The awards ceremony will take place from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m.

For visitors:

You will be our valued judges! Come to the event area between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to taste the participants' pies and vote.

Two criterias will be taken into consideration:

  • Taste (that's what matters most, after all!)
  • Presentation
  • Creativity

The awards ceremony will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

À qui la meilleure sauce tomate de la Petite Italie ?

For the second year, the market will also host the “À qui la meilleure sauce tomate de la Petite Italie” event organized by Se mettre à table and Café Gelato.

In this competition, tomato sauces from merchants in Little Italy will compete.

In true Italian tradition, some businesses will also share their expertise and offer tastings of their delicious sauces. A winner will be selected by a panel of guest judges.

More details to come.
