Winter break at Jean-Talon Market!

From Monday, March 4 to Friday, March 8, 2024, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Jean-Talon Market invites families to enjoy a week of free activities as part of an event called Vive la relâche scolaire ! Children accompanied by their parents can enjoy a wide range of fun and educational activities. To the great delight of families, cooking and gardening workshops are returning for a second year, along with crafting, short films and board games. 

ll activities are free, but some have limited space. We encourage all parents to register their children in order to guarantee their spot. Children must be accompanied by parents at all times.

A free program for the whole family !

  1. Legume mosaic crafting
    Monday, March 4
    Five 30 minutes workshops de at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m

    Come create a legume mosaic inspired by the fruits and vegetables from our merchants. With attentive guidance from an activity leader, budding artists ages 2 and up will create their own mosaics using legumes and other materials. During this fun activity, lasting around 30 minutes, children will learn about different kinds of legumes while making colourful original creations that they can take home and treasure.  
  2. Board games with Randolph
    Tuesday, March 5
    3-hour session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m


    Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to a board games session led by the specialists from Randolph. It’s a perfect opportunity to try out some new games, each one more fun than the last. A selection of games suitable for all ages and tastes will also be available for families to play. Expect to make plenty of discoveries during this 3-hour session! No reservations.   

  3. Short films with Le petit cinéma du Marché
    Tuesday, March 5
    From 2 to 4 p.m.

    The Jean-Talon Market mezzanine will become a mini movie theatre for an afternoon. Presented by Festival REGARD, these carefully selected short films were among the favourites of the festival’s 27th edition, and they’re perfect for viewers of all ages. This screening is a great way for the whole family to get away and see captivating stories while munching popcorn and sipping hot chocolate, both provided for free. No reservations.
  4. Introduction to flower gardening
    Wednesday, March 6
    For 30 minutes workshops at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m

    With spring coming, what could be better than learning how to plant flowers! Led by the popular Jean-Talon Market florist Binette & Filles, these gardening workshops for beginners last around 30 minutes and will allow young gardeners to discover how grow flowers from seeds. All participating children will be given a small pot to take home so they can nurture the seeds they planted all the way to flowering.
  5. Cooking workshops for little chefs
    Thursday, March 7
    Three 30 minutes workshops at 1, 2 and 3 p.m

    Under the supervision of C’est moi le chef!, children ages 2 to 12 will learn the basics of cooking in a fun setting where they will prepare a delicious age-appropriate recipe. With so many fresh and colourful products available in the market, the budding chefs will be able to use high-quality ingredients in their delicious spring rolls.  
  6. Gardening workshops – My first micro-greens
    Friday, March 8
    For 30 minutes workshops at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m

    These workshops for kids ages 5 and up are led by Au Septième Micro-Pousse, which regular Jean-Talon Market shoppers will already know. The workshops will provide a thorough introduction to the fascinating world of micro-greens. It’s a practical experience that will give participants the chance to learn how to grow them and learn all about them. Children will go home with a small pot containing seeds that they planted during the workshop, so that they can proudly sample some micro-greens that they grew themselves. Make sure you register in time, places are in high demand!
