Maple Syrup Dumplings (Grands-Pères)
A classic Quebec dessert, these maple syrup grandpas are moist and comforting. A traditional recipe to enjoy warm!
Ingredients
Dough:
- 2 cups white flour (500 ml)
 - 2 tablespoons (25 ml) sugar
 - 4 teaspoons (20 ml) baking powder
 - ½ teaspoon (3 ml) salt
 - 1/3 cup (75 ml) softened butter or margarine
 - 1 cup (250 ml) milk

Syrup:
- 1 ¾ cups (440 ml) maple syrup
 - 1 ¾ cups (440 ml) water

Preparation
- Make the pastry: mix the butter with the sugar until smooth, then add the dry ingredients and finish with the milk.
 - Bring the syrup and water to the boil in a large pot with a lid.
 - Drop the dough by spoonfuls into the hot syrup, spacing the spoonfuls well apart to allow the dough to rise.
 - Cover and simmer over a medium heat, without lifting the lid, for about 15 minutes.
