We'll soon be unveiling the 2025 program for Festiv'été édition piquante! 

What better way to celebrate summer and summer heat than with a party featuring the world of spices? Festiv'été is THE hottest party on the market. It sets the market on fire with several companies specializing in spicy accompaniments, as well as a hot sauce tasting contest that's sure to set the atmosphere alight.

10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.    Ferment    Workshop on koji: Koji is a filamentous mushroom used mainly in Japanese cuisine for fermentation. Scientifically, it is Aspergillus oryzae. The workshop ends with a tasting of fermented koji, followed by koji in hot sauce!
 
11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.    Jardin Chez MichelDesauciers Sriracha sauce cooking workshop: simple recipe demonstration and exclusive tasting!
12 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.    Marché des Saveurs du QuébecCooking workshop: Asian hot sauces that go well with Wontons
 
1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.   Sébastien Harrison CloutierCooking workshop: presentation of a recipe for Chile relleno, a fried poblano pepper stuffed with cheese, jalapeño salsa and roasted tomato. 

Hot sauce tasting competition

No pepper-focused event would be complete without a hot-sauce tasting competition! 

Join us at 4 p.m. in the Jean-Talon Market’s event zone for a lively competition in which several brave competitors facing off for the title of spice champ as they sample the hottest sauces made in Quebec. Hosted by Michel Kunta, the competition will be a must during this spicy day !

Participants will have to eat seven chicken or vegetarian nuggets soaked in hot-sauces, from least to most hot on the Scoville scale. Next, participants still in the race must eat, as quickly as possible, 3 chicken or vegetarian nuggets soaked in the hottest sauces.  Prizes will be awarded to the three fastest participants.   

Will you be game to try*?  You could win one of the following prizes! 

  • 1st place : $300 in gift certificates from Les Marchés publics de Montréal, several hot sauces and a $25 gift bag from Les Marchés publics de Montréal.
  • 2nd place : $100 in gift certificates from Les Marchés publics de Montréal, several hot sauces and a $25 gift bag from Les Marchés publics de Montréal.
  • 3rd place :  $50 in gift certificates from Les Marchés publics de Montréal, several hot sauces and a $25 gift bag from Les Marchés publics de Montréal. 

The competition is open to people aged 18 and over. Please note that this competition is difficult and requires a high level of tolerance. It is not recommended for people who do not tolerate spiciness. When registering, you must read and accept the competition rules.

A Resto Zone turned spicy!

In the event and resto zone :

  • Bouffe-moi! will be serving up spicy, GIANT Montreal pogos
  • Les Filles Fattoush will have mouhamara, a hot version of bell pepper dip
  • Musubi will create, for the occasion, a spicy tuna onigiri with bok choy and Kumkuat hot sauce
  • Mazorca will prepare spicy Caribbean jerk chicken tacos
  • Casa will prepare spicy poutine
  • Panda Restaurant will prepare their general tao rice with hot sauces and some
