This workshop, led by le Projet Zéro Déchet, will teach you how to make tawashis, woven cloths inspired by Japanese tradition, to replace synthetic sponges. All materials are provided for the workshop, but if you wish, you can bring your socks with holes in them and discover how to reuse them in a creative and ecological way.

Harvesting vegetable seeds can be a fun activity full of discovery. Knowing where the seeds are hidden inside different vegetables, how to harvest them and how to preserve them is an interesting challenge for young and old alike.

Under the guidance of a science education specialist from Technoscience Région métropolitaine, children ages 6 to 12 will do several fun experiments based on some amazing scientific concepts. It’s a great introduction to science and a way to expand  their scientific minds , even during the summer holidays! 

What could be better than having fresh herbs on hand for our summer recipes? In this workshop, participants will learn the theoretical and practical basics for sowing seeds all summer long. Several herbs will be used during the workshop.

Inspired by the stalls at the Jean-Talon Market, children start by creating 2 sketches of their chosen fruit and vegetable, which they transfer to fabric before coloring with paint. The words «J’aime» can be added freehand or using a stencil. The perfect bag to do your shopping!

What better way to celebrate summer and hot weather than with a spicy event? Festiv’été is the all-new event that will set the Jean-Talon Market ablaze.

During this free event, Jean-Talon Market will be hosting 15 companies that specialize in spicy sauces and sides and a variety of culinary demonstrations, free of charge and with no registration required. A festive musical atmosphere, a cocktail bar and a hot sauce tasting competition will also warm up the atmosphere.  

Take a trip back in time to the days when you received car service on roller skates. Chicks ’50s is straight out of that era. They’ve created a franchise of independent, professional waitresses from Quebec, offering you “top noche” service. “Life is like a picnic! Yes sir!” The Chicks ’50s entertain customers with their zany songs and skate dances while taking their orders.

During this presentation, you’ll be introduced to the fascinating world of mushroom cultivation. You’ll learn how to grow delicious oyster mushrooms in a simple bucket, using methods that are accessible to everyone. A Mycoboutique expert will explain the inoculation process in detail, from substrate preparation to daily maintenance. At the end of the session, you’ll have all the knowledge you need to reproduce the experience at home. This fun, hands-on introduction will open the door to a rewarding and tasty hobby.

Flowers in the vegetable garden have many functions: not only do they bring color for the eyes and attract pollinators, but we can also use them to garnish our plates! Come and discover our selection of edible flowers during a transplanting workshop, and leave with your own flower arrangement.

Where do eggs come from? What about hens? What does a chicken need to live a healthy life? Repaire de Biquette will be at the market with three Chantecler hens whose minders will introduce you to the ins and outs of raising these descendants of feathered dinosaurs.  

Presented by Jardin de la devinette, this workshop will introduce participants to the essential principles would-be vegetable gardeners need to understand, whether they’re planting in their backyard or on their balcony. Participants will learn about the essential elements and concepts behind a successful vegetable garden: cultivable area, seedlings, containers, soil and gardening tools. Ideal for beginners or gardeners looking to refresh their knowledge. Participants will leave with a brief gardening guide. 

Participants in this workshop, led by Café Graffiti, will get to immerse themselves in Montreal’s urban culture. They will be guided by “graffers” who will talk about the history of graffiti in Montreal and different lettering styles. They will first get to create their own ‘’graff’’ (logo) on paper, before drawing it on a ballcap using paint markers, and then will get to take their project home!
