Fermentation workshop: discovering water kefir

Atelier fermentation

The Jean-Talon Market invites you to take part in a free fermentation workshop and discover water kefir.

At this workshop, hosted by Ferment, you'll learn how to make water kefir, a naturally fizzy, thirst-quenching drink full of life. Participants will learn how to prepare a basic recipe, flavor a 2nd fermentation and have the opportunity to taste a water kefir on site.

Participants leave with their own fermented beverage (without kefir grains).

Ferment is a Montreal-based boutique specializing in artisanal fermentation in all its forms. In addition to offering specialized products, we regularly host workshops to teach the basics of fermentation to the curious and the passionate alike. The approach is friendly, accessible and rooted in the pleasure of discovering sustainable, local food practices.

Two 1h30-minute sessions are offered:

  • 11am to 12:30pm
  • 1:15pm to 2:45pm

All materials are included: a 250 ml jar per participant to prepare a water kefir, ingredients to flavor a 2nd fermentation (hibiscus, mint leaves, lime wedges and berries) and a recipe card or explanatory PDF sent after the workshop.

Just bring your motivation to learn and taste new flavors.

Where will the workshop take place?

To get to the workshop, go to the event area north-west of the market, under one of the open-air marquees. For Google maps, click here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/r8NZu3WNmnJwTLNq6.
