Kiosques de la Relèves and daily stands: back in your markets

Once again this summer, the Atwater, Jean-Talon and Maisonneuve markets will be welcoming new businesses to their daily stalls and Kiosques de la Relève! Look out for them from May 3 to October 20 as they join your regular merchants and contribute to the richness of your markets' food offering.
Formulas adapted to entrepreneurial realities
Kiosques de la Relève
Inaugurated in 2021, Kiosques de la Relève represent a crucial initiative to support young agricultural and horticultural producers. This formula enables them to establish themselves in public markets without the financial burden usually associated with a permanent location.
The challenges facing these businesses are many. These include access to farmland, soaring operating costs, and a lack of manpower and resources. By pooling infrastructure, Kiosques de la Relève facilitates their acccess to the market. What's more, for the past five years, the Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA) has subsidized 50% of rental costs, enabling young farmers to carve out a place for themselves on the plates of Montrealers.
“Les Kiosques de la Relève is our way of helping the next generation of farmers by facilitating direct access to the clientele of our major public markets. Since its launch, the project has delighted Montrealers who are keen to try new local foods, or who want to support the development of young producers who are starting out in agriculture. - Nicolas Fabien-Ouellet, General Manager, Marchés publics de Montréal
Daily locations
The daily sites, meanwhile, are open to a wider range of businesses, including established agricultural producers, restaurateurs and food processors. Initially launched at Jean-Talon Market in 2023, the initiative was then extended to Maisonneuve Market in 2024. And since summer 2025, it has been available at the Atwater Market.
This type of location offers a number of advantages to entrepreneurs, including total flexibility in choosing the days they will be present, and access to permanent equipment (tent and tables) that eliminates the logistical constraints of set-up and dismantling. Smaller businesses and those wishing to experiment with direct-to-consumer sales can thus try out the market experience without too many commitments.
Maude Deschênes Couture of Ferme Collembole tried this formula for the first time in 2024. Every Saturday in summer, she offers Jean-Talon Market customers tasty vegetables from her market garden.
“We're very grateful and excited to be part of the Jean-Talon Market's merchants. It's a great way for us to showcase our farm and let people taste the wonderful products of our Lanaudière region. We can't wait for the summer season to start! - Maude from Ferme Collembole
This is also the case for Ophélia Sarakinis of Ferme Gush, who sold her urban strawberries in the summer of 2024. For this grower, the main motivation for coming to the market is of course meeting customers in person.
“It makes my business more human and allows me to create a direct link with the community. The daily stalls initiative gives me the opportunity to reconcile farm activities and gives me the flexibility to meet my customers' needs. I look forward to continuing to bring fresh, quality produce to our loyal customers all summer long.” - Ophelia of Gush Farm
At Jean-Talon Market, the daily stalls area is reserved for agricultural producers. You will find :
- Brouette Maraîchère with its organic vegetable plants
- Hova Ranch with their farm-raised meat
- Cidrerie Black Creek
- Ferme Hill Head Chilli with their chilli plants
- La Ferme maraîchère Collembole with its vegetables
- Les Jardins de la Minga with their Apothicari fire vinegar.
Follow them on their social networks to make sure you don't miss out!
Edem from Jardin d'Edem, present in 2023 and 2024, testifies:
“It's the diversity of the public, meeting epicureans, introducing them to our exotic vegetables and giving them tips on how to prepare them that motivated us to take part in the Montreal Public Markets. For me, it's a great way to promote our vegetables while spending as much time as possible in our fields” - Edem from Jardin d'Edem.
At Maisonneuve Market, the outdoor area will host five tents. A variety of businesses, including artisan processors and restaurateurs, will be present in rotation:
- La p'tite boutique with its paellas
- Dunord with dehydrated meals
- Les Jardins de la Minga with their artisanal vinegar
- Ayke and their infused maple syrup
- Sécheurs Cueilleurs with dried flowers and herbs
- Bouffe-Moi! with their vegan pogos
- Cuisine Lakay Lola
- Bar à beurre
- PyThon Sushi Rolls
The 2025 season promises to be rich in discoveries of fruits, vegetables, artisan sauces, medicinal herbs, farm-raised meats, homemade pastries, seasonings and much more at all three markets.
