Les Sucres at Atwater Market

Les Sucres au Marché Atwater

Spring is here, and so is the long-awaited time to celebrate maple syrup at Montréal’s public markets! Join us at Atwater Market on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., for a day of free entertainment and delicious treats!

All day long, you’ll have the chance to discover and taste maple syrup in a thousand and one ways: taffy on snow, maple cocktails and mocktails, and a sugar shack menu. At Les Sucres at Atwater Market, there’ll be plenty to enjoy!

All day long, free activities will enliven the market, including inflatable and giant games, children’s storytelling and traditional dance and music performances!

Free programming

  • Children’s storytelling session on the theme of maple syrup
    Two sessions: 10 a.m. to 10:25 a.m., then 10:35 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The author-illustrator duo Stéphanie G. Vachon et Fanny Achache will host a storytelling session on the theme of maple syrup. They’ll present their album “L’eau s’est transformée en sirop!” in story form, then interactively explain the various stages in the transformation of water into maple syrup. Using materials from the author’s family sugar shack, as well as live drawings by the illustrator, children will learn more about the steps involved in producing maple syrup, from the sugar bush to the table.
  • Traditional dance show and entertainment with Tissés Serrés
    From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Come move, learn and share, in a spirit of conviviality and living heritage! Driven by the idea of transmitting intangible heritage, Tissés Serrés plunges participants into the heart of Quebec traditions through dance. From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., our team invites you to discover traditional Quebec dance in a fun and participatory way. On the program: musician, cuddlers and demonstrations, accessible to all, young and old!
  • Traditional music show with EspaceTrad
    Two performances: 12:30 to 1 p.m., then 1:30 to 2 p.m.

Enjoy the talents of singer Lysandre Chartrand and Marco le violoneux in this traditional music show presented by EspaceTrad. EspaceTrad musicians bring traditional Quebec arts to Montreal through music, dance and song classes, dance vigils, a training camp and the Festival Trad Montréal. It’s a dynamic meeting place where enthusiasts, artists and the curious come together to discover, share and bring these traditions to life in a festive, convivial atmosphere. Come and discover them at Atwater Market!
  • Picky Pickers music show
From 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Picky Pickers is a Montreal-based Blue Grass/Old Time Country band made up of musicians from a variety of backgrounds, who meet weekly at the Barfly for Blue Grass jams. The band has been touring Quebec venues and festivals for 3 years now, impressing crowds who are often new to the genre. An album is planned for 2025, but in the meantime you can hear their compositions and their interpretations of obscure Blue Grass pieces live!
