Flowers and plants
The term "perennial" is often used by gardeners to designate a plant that is able to withstand the rigours of bad weather, whether it is winter frost or dry, scorching summers. In horticulture, the term is in opposition to "annual" or "biennial"; however, many plants that are considered as annuals here may be perennial in other climates or in their original habitats. All woody plants (trees, shrubs) are perennials. The list of perennial flowers and foliage plants in our climate includes astilbes, delphiniums, lavender, hostas, hydrangeas, day lilies, iris, daisies, and many others.
