Santa’s Cookies with Magic Powder, Desserts et collations
  • Preparation time: 25 minutes
  • Baking time: 12 to 15 minutes
  • Make this biscuit recipe, signed La Fille du 3eme, a tradition of your holiday preparations!

    Ingredients

    Cookies (2 dozen):

    • 3 c. flour
    • 1 tsp. baking soda
    • 1 c. softened butter
    • 1 c. sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
    • ½ tsp. almond extract (optional)
    • Red and green food colouring

    Royal Icing:

    • 1 egg white
    • 1 ¾ c. caster sugar
    • 2 tsp. water (more or less depending on the desired texture)
    • ¼ tsp. almond extract (optional)
    • Red food colouring

    Santa’s Magic Powder

    • 10 crushed candy canes
    • 2 tbsp. your favourite cake decorations (white pearls, candy snowflakes, coloured sprinkles, etc.)
    • One or more Santa’s cookies, crumbled

    Preparation

    Cookies:

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°. Cover a large cookie sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
    2. Combine the cookie ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well until the texture is homogenous and slightly sandy.
    3. Separate the cookie dough into three equal parts. Add a few drops of red food colouring to one. Add a few drops of green food colouring to the second and leave the third part without colouring.
    4. Combine the two colours (see photos) or choose your own design.
    5. On a clean surface, roll out the coloured dough with a rolling pin to about 0.5 cm in thickness. Cut out the cookies with a cookie cutter until all the dough is used up.
    6. Place the cookies on the cookie sheet and bake 12 to 15 minutes, or until slightly browned.

    Royal Icing:

    1. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Mix well. Set aside.
    2. Dip the baked and cooled cookies into the icing (one side only).

    Magic powder:

    1. Combine all the ingredients together in a container.
    2. Sprinkle over the iced cookies, or into your fireplace.
