Preheat the oven to 350°. Cover a large cookie sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
Combine the cookie ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well until the texture is homogenous and slightly sandy.
Separate the cookie dough into three equal parts. Add a few drops of red food colouring to one. Add a few drops of green food colouring to the second and leave the third part without colouring.
Combine the two colours (see photos) or choose your own design.
On a clean surface, roll out the coloured dough with a rolling pin to about 0.5 cm in thickness. Cut out the cookies with a cookie cutter until all the dough is used up.
Place the cookies on the cookie sheet and bake 12 to 15 minutes, or until slightly browned.
Royal Icing:
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Mix well. Set aside.
Dip the baked and cooled cookies into the icing (one side only).
Magic powder:
Combine all the ingredients together in a container.
Sprinkle over the iced cookies, or into your fireplace.
