Daily space : a growing pilot project !
New season, more flavors ! This summer, the Jean-Talon and Maisonneuve markets welcome around twenty new businesses thanks to a daily rental formula! Find out how this rental formula facilitates the presence of smaller businesses, and above all, learn who these newcomers are who will be trying out the Montreal Public Markets this summer!
Introduced last year at the Jean-Talon Market, this project is designed to be as flexible as possible for both producers for the first year and now merchants in the food industry. It allows them to rent a site on a day-to-day basis according to their own availability. It’s a simple way to adapt to their reality, while diversifying the offer available at Montreal’s public markets! Smaller businesses and those wishing to try direct-to-consumer sales can therefore try out the market without too many obligations.
Maude Deschênes Couture from Collembole Farm is one of those businesses who will be experiencing the concept for the very first time this Saturday, June 1. She will be offering Jean-Talon Market customers tasty vegetables from her farm every Saturday.
“We’re very grateful and excited to be part of the Jean-Talon Market’s vendors. It’s a great way for us to showcase our farm and let people taste the wonderful products of our Lanaudière region. We can’t wait for the summer season to start! – Maude from Ferme Collembole, CAPE member
The same is true of Ophélia Sarakinis from Ferme Gush, who began selling her urban grown strawberries at the Jean-Talon Market in May. For this strawberry grower, the main motivation for coming to the market is, of course, to meet customers face-to-face.
“It makes my business more human and allows me to create a direct link with the community. The daily space initiative gives me the opportunity to balance farm activities and gives me the flexibility to meet my customers’ needs. I look forward to continuing to bring fresh, quality produce to our loyal customers all summer long.” – Ophelia of Gush Farm
After a first season at Jean-Talon Market in 2023, the daily space concept is coming to Maisonneuve Market. This pilot project will be the perfect complement to the Market’s offering! In addition to the usual merchants, this new outdoor area will welcome a host of businesses ready to showcase their specialties every Saturday of the summer. On the menu: pastries, dried medicinal herbs, hot sauces, typical Haitian seasonings and much more! Find them on the Ontario Street side of the Market’s marquee.
Every Saturday, food processors and agricultural businesses will be present in this zone across from Ontario Street! Find out all about the Ontario Street zone here.
At Jean-Talon Market, the daily space zone will also be well-stocked, with the presence of a number of businesses including Rizen with its Asian vegetable seedlings, La Brouette Maraîchère with its organic vegetable seedlings, Ferme La with its farm-raised meat, Gush Farm with its sweet urban strawberries, Ferme maraîchère Collembole with its vegetables, and Les Jardins de la Minga with its Apothicari fire vinegar.

“It’s the diversity of the public, meeting epicureans and introducing them to our exotic vegetables as well as giving them tips on how to prepare them that motivated us to take part in the Montreal Public Markets this summer. For me, it’s a great way to showcase our vegetables while spending as much time as possible in our fields” – Edem from Jardin d’Edem.
The season promises to be rich in discoveries from fruits, vegetables, homemade sauces, and medicinal herbs to farm-raised meat, homemade pastries, seasonings and much more!
Adapting to the reality of local businesses has never been so delicious.
