Sumacade: Sumac Lemonade

Sumac is an ancient Canadian drink. The fruits of the staghorn sumac are small, hairy fruits that taste like lemon. You'll get a pale or dark pink lemonade depending on the steeping time!

Ingredients

  • 3 to 5 sumac fruits
  • 2 liters of water
  • Sugar

Preparation

  1. Mash the fruit with your hands in a large container filled with water.
  2. Depending on the acidity of your fruit, let it soak for a maximum of a few minutes to an hour.
  3. Strain and sweeten to taste.
