Autumn atmosphere in your markets

Montreal's public Markets are lively places where local flavours and community spirit come together. Open year-round, they are particularly vibrant in the autumn when the stalls are overflowing with seasonal produce and festive activities are in full swing. To help you make the most of this season, here are some of our favourite activities and discoveries to try on your next visit:
Come to Oktoberfest !
Celebrated in our three major markets (20 September at Maisonneuve Market, 27 and 28 September at Atwater Market, and 4 and 5 October at Jean-Talon Market), Oktoberfest brings together several Québec microbreweries, music along with a host of delicious foods to enjoy in a festive atmosphere.

Preserving food
Autumn is the ideal season to preserve the flavours of summer so you can enjoy them during the colder months. Stock up on ripe berries, corn, tomatoes, aubergines and much more to freeze or turn into sauces, condiments and jams.
Enjoy one last treat in the zone resto
Winter wall installations will be put up at the end of October at the Atwater and Jean-Talon markets, so now is the time to enjoy the food courts one last time. Offering everything from comforting snacks to international specialities, these kiosks are a feast for the senses.
Cooking with your family
What better way to celebrate the abundance of autumn than by taking part in a family cooking workshop and watching your young chefs get to work? These interactive sessions teach the basics of cooking and healthy eating habits in a fun and stimulating environment.
Stock up on apples
Fall is also the season that showcases a star ingredient: apples. From the sweetest to the most tart, the markets are overflowing with a wide variety of apples, perfect for eating or cooking. Ask the producers for advice on the best ways to use their apples and swap your bottle of wine for some local cider.

Beautify your space with autumn flowers
As soon as autumn arrives, Montreal's public Markets overflow with colourful chrysanthemums, a vibrant farewell before the snow arrives. Resistant to temperatures down to about -5°C and naturally hardy, chrysanthemums are perfect for brightening up your garden and restoring its beauty year after year.
Shopping at the market for Thanksgiving
Markets are the perfect place to do your Thanksgiving shopping. You'll find fresh turkeys from local farms, seasonal vegetables such as heritage pumpkins and fresh cranberries, homemade pies, artisan breads and everything you need for a memorable meal.
Although it marks the end of a season, autumn also heralds a period of cosiness. At Montréal's public Markets, this comfort comes in many delicious forms, such as hot drinks offered by specialty cafés like Brûlerie aux Quatre Vents, or generous portions of raclette cheese or fondue to welcome the cosy season as it should be welcomed.
