Get ready for the weekend : Jean-Talon and Atwater terraces are back
Marchés publics de Montréal
Market life

Imagine for a moment: the sun gilding your skin, the smell of food tickling your nose and the gentle ambience of a public market all around you. This reality will soon be possible, as the terraces at Marché Jean-Talon and Marché Atwater open this weekend*. Like every year, they’ll welcome a host of restaurateurs ready to treat you all summer long on the terraces. To help you make the most of it, here’s everything you need to know!

Four newcomers at the Jean-Talon Market Resto Zone

This summer, Jean-Talon Market’s Resto Zone promises to be more delicious than ever! Indeed, most of the ready-to-eat counters and restaurants present last year will be back, and four newcomers will be joining them! Here they are:

  • Loumi: A natural extension of the popular restaurant in the heart of Mile-End, Loumi at Jean-Talon Market will continue to offer the same passion for Mediterranean cuisine and the same delicious flavours featuring Halloumi cheese. Founders Karim Mahmoud and Amine Laabi look forward to sharing their delicious creations with you.
  • Roxy Focaccia: This newcomer honours the southern Italian roots of its five founders, Roxanna Covone, Adamo Urgolo, Vincent Romito, Elisa Covone and Mauro Covone. It was their passion for the culinary arts that led them to open this counter inspired by Italian street food. There, focaccia will be used as sandwich bread, offering a delicious marriage between the sturdy base and the tasty ingredients that can be added into it.
  • Nanana: At their Jean-Talon Market counter, you’ll have access to an original selection of frozen desserts in a setting just as POP as at the parent address, and above all, you’ll be greeted with just as much enthusiasm! Since its opening, Nanana has established itself as a benchmark for colorful, creative, quality pastries. Now it’s time to discover their new range of playful frozen desserts.
  • CASA Poutine + Bar: This new counter will delight you with its delicious classic and reinvented poutines! The little brother of Mazorca Mtl, CASA will feature a typically local dish with a touch of originality and Latin-inspired flavours. In addition, CASA’s poutines can be accompanied by homemade churros and a variety of beverages. Look out for them starting May 11th.

The integration of Loumi, Roxy Focaccia, Nanana, Musubi and CASA will diversify and enrich the range of flavours already present, including those of Mazorca MTL, Bouffe-moi!, Le Coin Santé, Panda Restaurant, Mangue et Melon, Les Filles Fattoush, La boîte aux Huîtres, La Croqueteria et La Crêperie du Marché.

All are eager to welcome back their customers. Such is the case of Bouffe-moi! who specialize in local pogos and cocktails : “We’re proud to be back for a fourth consecutive summer in this bustling Resto Zone. At the Marché, there’s so much room to be creative, to be inventive and to grow. To think that we started this adventure with a little fryer from Canadian Tire, frying one pogo at a time, and that my sister and I were chopping red cabbage until 1 a.m. for the next day’s service is crazy ! We’re proud to say that after only 18 months of operation, our business now has 12 employees and is equipped with a commercial kitchen ! ” – Julie and Rose Levasseur

It’s sure to please customers and demonstrate the continuing evolution of Jean-Talon Market as a leading gastronomic destination. The terrace is located toward the northeast of the Market, and has plenty of seating capacity.

The Pôle des Saveurs at the Atwater Market: a culinary world tour in just a few steps

At the Atwater Market, the Pôle des Saveurs is the perfect meeting place for food lovers in the southwest. Under the large shelter, the terraces are the ideal place to enjoy a delicious meal.

Aylwin Barbecue, Falafel Yoni, Le Petit Sao, Satay Brothers, Layla’s and Lucille’s, all back for another year, will welcome you with a range of tasty and varied dishes. For hot days, there’s nothing better than Ca Lem’s ice creams, while sweet tooths can indulge in Léché Dessert‘s colorful donuts or Ave Greene’s varied products.

For many restaurateurs, the opening of the Pôle des Saveurs marks the long-awaited return of a loyal and enthusiastic clientele. Some have even been sharing their passion for flavors and cuisine for over a decade. Such is the case of Alex Winnicki of the South Asian food counter Satay Brothers, who declares: “We’re always excited by the opening of the Pôle des Saveurs because it means summer and good weather are on the way! This will be our 14th season, and we’re still delighted to see our loyal customers back under the big tent. Some of them have been coming since the very beginning, and we can’t wait to see them again! Plus, we’ll be able to eat Aylwin brisket, which we always miss during winter.”

With the return of the majority of restaurants in both Markets and the arrival of four newcomers at Jean-Talon Market, the Resto Zone and the Pôle des Saveurs look as diverse and lively as ever.
